Misbah – ul – Haq is one the of the very few promising cricketers, who have gained a very late impetus in international cricket career, where he was recalled to side at age of thirty – two in inaugural T 20 world cup. After almost three years of abrupt lay – off from Pakistan national side, he received lifeline. In fact he made his test debut in year 2001 and marked by his ODI debut in the next year. He showed huge promise in tri – nation tournament in 2002, where he made two promising half centuries in three matches. Just when selectors were thinking, that they had found able middle order batsmen, to represent national side, he recorded a serious dip in form, where he managed a single 20 plus score in three test match series against Australia and was dumped out of the team. He must be the man of missed opportunities, where Pakistan abysmal performance in world cup 2003 gave him one more chance, to redeem himself, as a permanent member in team, but he did nothing, to assert his authority in team. He was kept out of team for next three years, thanks to likes of Inzamam-ul-haq and Mohammed Yousuf in their line up, who eclipsed his solid performance in domestic tournament for three years. Lady luck finally disported with him, when selectors decided to pick him for 15 member T 20 world cup, which is scheduled in South Africa in year 2007 and he not only grabbed this opportunity with both hands, but also tramped Pakistan side to finals of world cup with outstanding performance, where his batting average was about fifty. He solely treaded his side, to touching distance of world cup victory, by launching a astounding late strike, but was left to see frustratingly short of target. But with that match, he became a household name in Pakistan and was awarded top category central contract from Pakistan Cricket Board There were other late showers in monsoon season of Misbah life, when he was roped in by Banglaore Royal challengers for good amount of dollars, which reinstated the growing popularity of Misbah in international circuit. He has played 12 test matches, for Pakistan and 46 ODI matches, since then, in his short stint in Pakistan side, with two test centuries and highest score of mere 79 in ODI, which don’t do justice to his cricketing ability. At age of 34, with good level of fitness under his kitty, Misbah, the vice – captain of present Pakistan national side has plenty more to offer and showcase in international cricket, for sure.
